Casa Diablo puts its meat on the pole, not the plate. Oh, no.

Only a 10 minute drive from downtown Portland, its gravel driveway, car park and unassuming exterior are given away by a single white with black writing that says:. From the outside, Casa Diablo looks more like an old house with a large wrap around deck than a strip club. Inside, tells a different story: the bar is set at the back wall and the centre piece of the room is a large stage with several stripper poles reaching up to the ceiling. One sits against the stage, where a topless woman in a thong dances, and an older couple — late 50s or early 60s — sit in a booth against one of the walls. One of the poles is being cleaned by a woman in her underwear and a dark, low cut crop top.

Diablo told Business Insider he then decided to bring the girls, later renaming his business Casa Diablo. It sounds strange but the idea worked — not only do punters come for the women but they are relishing the food on the menu which ranges from mushroom burgers to friesburritos and sloppy joes.
Oregon has fairly loose regulations on opening strip clubs, but in order for Casa Diablo to obtain a liquor licence, it had to sell food — and if that had to be the case then it had to be vegan, obviously. While animal welfare might be a big deal to Diablo himself, the establishment is also careful to point out its dancers are also to be treated well.
On its website Casa Diablo claims one of its rules is that punters must be nice to dancers and treat them with respect.
We expect the same of you. Smile and have a good time. And tell all of your friends about us.
The world's first vegan strip club
Casa Diablo said patrons must respect the dancers. If a vegan strip club can succeed anywhere, it would have to be Portland — a city which is a haven for such establishments. It has also been described as a laid-back town where wearing a hiking jacket to dinner is totally acceptable.
The only flesh you will see at Casa Diablo is on the women, not on the menu. But while the city itself may have a liberal outlook, it seems not everyone here is happy with the state of things, including some of its dancers.
Some are suing. Others have filed complaints with state regulators. A handful have unionised.
But the effort in Oregon to work directly with the Legislature — with the support of lobbyists — is unique. Portland, Oregon, is renowned for its high of strip clubs.
We just want to get these workplaces up to a minimum safety standard at least. In the US, strippers generally work as independent contractors rather than employees.
